Henry “Hank” Taylor, 88, of Loogootee, Indiana passed away at 4:14 p.m. Tuesday, August 15, 2023 at his home.
He was born December 8, 1934 in Indian Springs, Indiana to the late Henry M. and Della (Chastine) Tayor.
Hank was a United States Army veteran and served in the Korean War. He worked at NSWC Crane for 28 years as a Small Arms Supervisor. Hank was a member of the Veteran of Foreign War – Post 9395 and the American Legion – Post 120. He was of the Christian faith.
He was an avid western book reader. Hank loved to ride horses and went to Missouri with several close friends 15 years in a row for trail riding. He enjoyed hunting, gardening, and canning his harvest. Hank also loved to watch boxing.
Hank will be remembered by many lifelong friends for his compassionate and helping nature. He loved life and sharing it with others. He was known to say “you gotta learn your limitations.”
He was preceded in death by his son, Timothy Wayne Taylor; parents, Henry M. and Della Taylor; siblings, Fredrick “Fred” Taylor, William “Bill” Taylor, James Taylor, Julia (Bob) Litton, Hylia Jean (Alan) Silver; 1st wife, Delema Grissom Taylor and 2nd wife, Shirley Spears Sanders Taylor.
Hank is survived by his daughter, Vonda Taylor of Loogootee; siblings, Gerald (Lina) Taylor of California, Roger (Connie) Taylor of Plainville, Sylvia Rush of Bloomington and Lois (Robert “Doc”) Conklin of Loogootee; special friends, Kim Bateman, Denny Wagoner and Jimmy Payne; 78 nieces and nephews; stepdaughters, Donna Bateman of Shoals and Kimberly Duzan of North Carolina; several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Friday, August 18, 2023 at Loogootee Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Trinity Springs Cemetery.
