A former correctional officer, Shauna Boatright, will experience the inside of prison herself for just over a year, facing a 1-year sentence as an inmate. Boatright, 36 years old, is reported to have accepted bribes from inmates during her tenure as a correctional treatment specialist at the Federal Correctional Complex in Terre Haute. According to the Department of Justice, Boatright had been part of the Federal Bureau of Prisons for nearly a decade. However, in 2021, it’s alleged she confided in an inmate about her financial struggles, seeking his advice. Following this conversation, she initiated smuggling tobacco for the mentioned inmate and later expanded her smuggling operations to include at least one more inmate. For her services, the two inmates engaged “associates” beyond the prison walls to compensate her. In a span of less than a month in 2021, Boatright reportedly received nearly $10,000 in CashApp payments. Upon her release, Boatright will face an additional two years of supervision by the U.S. Probation Office, in addition to being required to pay a fine.
