Janet Tilly

Janet Tilly, 86, passed away peacefully on January 3rd at Good Samaritan Hospital after a long Christian life.
Born on October 23, 1937 to Albert and Lena Pieper Tilly, Janet lived her entire life on the family farm. She absolutely loved the country life, which allowed her to pursue her lifelong passion of horseback riding. A 1955 graduate of Freelandville High School, Janet loved to follow the IU Hoosiers basketball team.
Janet started her career as a switch board operator at the Freelandville telephone office leveraging her substantial expertise in talking. For more than 30 years, she served as receptionist and bookkeeper at Dr. Bill O’Dell’s Freelandville office, where she was renowned for punctuality at the office and other appointments.
Above all, Janet was a Christian, and that was evident in her daily actions. She expressed her faith through membership of Bethel Church of Freelandville, the Christian Partners Sunday School Class, and the Bethel Guild.
Surviving Janet are her brother Herman and his wife Nancy of rural Bicknell, niece Kristin Tilly Leous (Mike) of Pittsboro, nephew Jeff Tilly (Andrea of Newburgh, nieces April Sims of Warner Robins, Georgia, and Cheryl Sims (Starlin) of Bicknell.
Great nieces and nephews are Graham and Cameron Tilly; Quinn, Isabella, and Keegan Leous; Autumn Sims Butler (John), Jennifer Sims Umboltz (Justin), Starlin Sims (Kelly); and Brandon Williams, Toby Sims McDonald (Chip) and Celeste Sims ( Ernesto Lopez).
Visitation will be Saturday,January 6, 2024, from 12:00 noon until 2:00 pm at Bethel Church,13673 E. State Road 58, Edwardsport, IN. 47528 with a service immediately following also at Bethel Church. Burial will follow at Bethel Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Bethel Church or Freelandville Community Home.
