The Washington Parks Department and the United Way announced a collaboration to place $50,000 of new playground equipment at Longfellow Park. Zella Taylor, United Way’s Executive Director was at last night’s Washington City Council meeting and said the funding was made available through a bequest from the estate of the late Virginia Adams.
Mayor Wellman said the United Way gift means that new playground equipment has been added to Washington’s three major parks in the last few years.
In other news from the meeting, the council heard from representatives of the owners of Jamestown Square asking the City to act as a conduit for state and federal funding for a renovation project at the 4o year old apartment complex. The City will have no financial obligation.
