Edgar A. “Ed” Lewis

Edgar A. “Ed” Lewis age 92, formally of Shoals, passed away November 18, 2019 at the Memorial Hospital and Healthcare Center in Jasper. He was born October 19, 1927 in Lawrence County to George W. and Susie (Quinn) Lewis. He married Joyce Lindley on April 14, 1984 in Lost River Township. They were the last couple married by Rev. Lloyd Butler.
He was a graduate of Shoals High School Class of 1945, served in the United States Army during the Korean War and retired from the US Gypsum following 31 years of service.
Edgar loved to hunt foxes, mushrooms and ginseng, enjoyed horse trail riding, and raised and trained Registered Quarter Horses. His favorite story to tell was, riding to school in a covered wagon on an old muddy road, pulled by horses on Emmons Ridge. “He could have walked but loved the ride.”
He is survived by his wife, one son, David (Rebecca) Lewis of Indianapolis; two daughters, Brenda (Rodney) Kaiser of Bedford and Janet Stroud of Shoals; six grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. Also surviving are one sister, Judy (Richard) Woosley of French Lick; one brother James “Jim” (Shirley) Lewis of Lost River and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Preceding him in death are his parents, one son, Donald Lewis; one brother Gerald Lewis; and two sisters, Pauline Hodson and Faye Hall.
No services are planned. Burial will be in the Spring Hill Cemetery at a later date.
The Queen-Lee Chapel of the Thorne-George Family Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
