
Elizabeth “Betty” Bateman Hamersly, age 90, died Sunday, December 1, 2019 at The Village at Oak Ridge.
Betty was born on April 12, 1929 in Chicago, IL to Andrew Kempf and Margaret Carroll. She graduated in 1947 from Washington High School and in 1949 she graduated from Lockyear Business College in Evansville. She married Clifford Bateman in 1955 and then went on to have twin daughters in 1960. She retired from Daviess County Superior Court as a court reporter in 1992. Betty was a member of The Garden Club, numerous bridge clubs, Tri-Kappa and on the Board of Directors for St. Vincent de Paul Society. Betty volunteered at St. Vincent DePaul for many years. She also loved to play bridge, read and garden.
Betty is preceded in death by her husband Clifford Bateman who died in January 1981 and her parents. She is survived by twin daughters Carroll Bateman Rourke and husband Brian of St. Thomas, USVI and Connie Bateman Lutz and husband Robert of Amherst, Ohio; grandson David Alexander Lutz of Glendale, CA and granddaughter Katherine Carroll Rourke of Washington, D.C.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, December 6, 2019 at 1:00 pm at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church with Father Paul Ferguson as celebrant. Burial will follow at St. John Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm on Friday at the church.
