Washington Board of Public Works Reviews Comprehensive Plan Proposals, Approves School Resource Officers, and Addresses Sewer Violation

The Board of Public Works and Safety received proposals from two companies to work on the required ten-year update of Washington’s Comprehensive Development Plan. The proposals were given to the Southern Indiana Economic Development Corporation for study.
The Board also approved an agreement with the Washington Community Schools for three school resource officers. One full-time WPD officer will work at the High School-Jr. High Complex. Two retired officers will work at the elementary schools.
The Board also learned that a digger-derrick truck ordered in 2021 will arrive next week. However, in the three years since it was ordered, the price has gone up by $17,000. Jeff Lemon told the board that the increased price is still lower than the original second-place bid. The board voted to go ahead with the purchase.
At the end of the meeting, the board authorized City Attorney Tim Dant to send a violation notice to a residence on NW 2nd Street regarding the house’s downspouts being connected to the sewer system. City regulations ban downspouts feeding directly into the sewer lines because they overload the sewers during heavy rains.
