Rose Ann (Helming) Halter

Rose Ann (Helming) Halter, 77, of Washington, passed away at her home on the family farm on October 9, 2024. She was born December 22, 1946, in Ferdinand to Bernard and Dorothy (Messmer) Helming. On March 2, 1974, she married David R. Halter. Together, for the next forty-three years, they created a blessed family and farm. David passed away in 2017.

Rose Ann graduated from Jasper High School in 1964. She did administrative work at Jasper Wood Products, Daviess County Abstract Office, and then retired from a robust career at DSI. She was also a go-to tax preparer at H & R Block for several decades. Rose Ann was a parishioner at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church and was very devout and active in her Catholic faith.

In these last years, she kept very busy. She volunteered at the Washington Catholic Elementary School and was an active volunteer at St. Vincent DePaul. She was the president of the Monday Afternoon Club and the Daughters of Isabella, Circle #598.

She was the best anyone could ask for as a wife, mom, grandma, sister, and friend. She was the type of person who would not hesitate to help anyone out, especially family. She most enjoyed her grandchildren’s activities and family gatherings. Her family was blessed to have her endless love and dedication.

Rose Ann is survived by her children: Steven (Jaime) Halter of Washington; Michael Halter of New Delhi, India; and Sandra (Noah) Sturgeon of Fishers; seven grandchildren: Jackson Halter, Isaac Halter, Lucas, Halter, Kaitlyn Sturgeon, Lauren Sturgeon, Alyssa Sturgeon, and Ethan Sturgeon. She leaves four siblings: Bernard Helming of Jasper, Joe Helming of Jasper, Elizabeth McMillen of Indianapolis, and Carolyn (Robert) Oeding of Ferdinand. Additionally, she leaves a brother-in-law, Gary Siddons of Jasper and a sister-in-law, Rhonda Helming of Celestine.

Rose Ann was preceded in death by her parents, Bernard and Dorothy Helming; husband, David R. Halter; brother, David Helming; sister, Marlene Siddons.; brother-in-law, Robert McMillen; and sister-in-law, Connie Helming.

Visitation for Rose Ann Halter will be 4:00-8:00 pm, Thursday, October 17, 2024, at the Ed L. Lee Mortuary, 620 East Viola Avenue, Washington, Indiana.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Rose Ann Halter will be celebrated at 10:00 am, Friday, October 18, at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church, 315 NE Third Street, Washington, Indiana. Father Paul Ferguson will be the celebrant. Burial will be in the St. John Cemetery.
