Six Coal Miners Injured in Underground Accident at Sunrise Coal Mine

Six coal miners were injured in an underground accident early Friday morning at the Sunrise Coal Mine on Perry Road, according to the Knox County Sheriff’s Department. Authorities responded to the scene at 12:55 a.m. Two of the injured miners were airlifted to Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, while four others were taken by ambulance to Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes. The accident is believed to have involved a collision with the mine ride. The names of the injured workers have not yet been released, pending family notification. The Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) is investigating the incident.
