Nearly 100 concerned Loogootee residents attended an open house public meeting regarding a proposed 50-unit apartment complex to be built on North Oak Street in the old city industrial park. The meeting was touted as an opportunity to get the facts and the chance for citizens to just listen and/or have questions and concerns heard. Joe White, President and CEO of JBH Ventures, co-developer with Sullivan Development, and sole owner of the planned Oak Street Village project, talked about who will live there and the number one concern about the project.

White explained there will be a rigorous tenant screening process with an onsite management interview, proof of employment, and proof of citizenship, and registered sex offenders will not be allowed due to the facility having a daycare center on site. The apartments will include income levels from 19,500 per year up to 54,000 per year. The complex will include a two-story, 14-unit building and a three-story, 36-unit building with an onsite daycare center, commons area, and pickleball courts. The next step in the process is for the Loogootee City Council to approve the sale of city-owned property and to partner with Sullivan Group and JBH Ventures to move forward. If approved by the state for tax credits in November, the soonest the building process would begin would be in July 2025.
