The Vincennes Community School Corporation (VCSC) board has approved the formation of a dedicated police department for the school district, aiming to strengthen on-campus safety and security. After months of discussions with local leaders and the Vincennes Police Department (VPD), VCSC plans to have officers focused solely on school safety, similar to the police model at Vincennes University. While VPD will continue providing support through school walkthroughs and an as-needed presence, it cannot fully meet the demand for SROs on campus. SRO Aaron Luce, formerly the VPD’s Public Information Officer, has been named as VCSC’s first police chief. The new department is expected to launch by January 6, 2025, in time for the spring semester. The department will operate independently but in collaboration with the city of Vincennes. Officers will complete state-mandated training, including specialized SRO training, with VPD assisting in training and providing resources.
