A Shoals couple has been arrested following an investigation into the neglect of a two-month-old infant suffering from severe malnutrition. Indiana State Police launched a criminal investigation on October 31, after the Department of Child Services reported concerns about the infant’s extreme weight loss. Authorities determined that Pearl Crowder, 22, and Isiah Beavers, 23, allegedly neglected the child, leading to life-threatening malnutrition. The infant was rushed to IU Bedford Emergency Hospital and later transported to Riley Children’s Hospital for emergency treatment. After reviewing the case, the Martin County Prosecutor’s Office issued arrest warrants on December 13. On December 16, Martin County deputies arrested Crowder and Beavers without incident. Both are being held at the Martin County Jail on charges of Neglect of a Dependent Causing Catastrophic Bodily Injury to a Minor, a Level 1 Felony.
