Good economic news keeps coming from the Daviess County Council meetings. On Wednesday, the council member heard from a radiation combined environment, a defense-related enterprise looking to locate a one-of-a-kind industry in the WestGate Technology Park. The Council heard from economic development leaders Bob Grewe and Bryant Niehoff along with RCE representatives. The developers are asking for a regular 10-year tax abatement on a projected $30 million building plus another $30 million in specialized equipment. The Council unanimously voted to begin the abatement process for the project.
In regular business, Sheriff Gary Allison presented the Sheriff Department’s annual year-end report and the semi-annual commissary report. The Council also approved an appropriation for overtime for highway workers during last month’s snowstorm, retirement benefits, and new employee training. The Council also approved Operation Pullover funds received by the Sheriff’s Department and opioid settlement funds.
The council members also approved a request for a change in the salary ordinance to pay for increased hours for two employees in Adult Protective Services. Due to uncertainty in the State of Indiana’s direction with APS, Daviess County Prosecutor Abby Brown said two employees are now doing the work of three. Brown told the Council that the State has said they will determine the direction of APS by July 1.
