Washington School Board Reviews Donations, Recognitions, and New Initiatives

The Washington Community Schools Board met yesterday, discussing donations, staff recognitions, new initiatives, and personnel updates.

Donations & Recognitions

The board acknowledged generous contributions, including $250 from the Daviess County Community Foundation for Washington Upper Elementary and $1,300 from TrueRX to support Read Across America supplies for Washington Primary Kindergarten. The district also recognized outstanding staff members, with support from Habig Injury Law. Honorees included Leigh Ann Dinkins (bus driver), Sherry Jones (food service at Washington Intermediate), Whitney Albrecht (secretary at Washington Upper Elementary), and Sara Kelso (teacher at Washington High School)

New Initiatives

Washington Primary Principal Kristen Murphy introduced two proposed programs for the 2025-2026 school year:

K5 Program: A year-long program for students needing extra support before kindergarten.

Staggered Start Schedule: A phased-in start to help young learners transition smoothly into the school year.

Personnel Updates

The board approved several coaching appointments and accepted the resignation of IT Assistant Jarrod Davis, effective after February 28.

Other Business & Upcoming Events

The board conducted the second reading of policy updates, appointed a Technical Review Committee and Design Criteria Consultant, and approved multiple student trips, including the BPA State Leadership Conference, DECA Career Development Conference, FFA State Convention, and a France trip. The next Regular Board Meeting is scheduled for March 20, 2025, at 7:00 p.m., following an Executive Session at 6:00 p.m.
