A tragic accident early Saturday morning claimed the life of 17-year-old John “JD” Moore in Daviess County. JD’s mother, Shelly Moore, contacted the Daviess County Sheriff’s Office around 3:00 a.m. after he failed to return home. Deputies attempted to track his phone and searched multiple locations but were unable to locate him. At 7:24 a.m., JD’s father, John Moore, discovered an overturned vehicle partially submerged in water along CR 1100 E, north of CR 800 N. Emergency responders arrived and confirmed JD was inside the vehicle and had passed away at the scene. The initial investigation determined JD was driving a 2000 Mercury northbound when, for unknown reasons, the car left the road, hit a fence and guardrail, then plunged into a deep embankment, overturning in a stream. The Daviess County Sheriff’s Office expressed condolences to the Moore family and those affected by the loss. The investigation was assisted by local fire departments, the county coroner, conservation officers, EMS, and wrecker services.
