Duke Energy customers will see higher electricity bills as an 8% rate increase takes effect, with an additional 3% hike scheduled for next year. The increase is expected to generate $295 million to cover operating costs. According to Duke Energy, the additional revenue will go toward strengthening the power grid, improving reliability, and expanding infrastructure while keeping rates lower than those of similar utilities in neighboring states. The company has also filed for a Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity with state regulators, potentially paving the way for further rate adjustments in the future.
