Washington’s annual Great Washingtonian Smoke Off is set to fire up the grills on May 2nd and 3rd at Eastside Park. The barbecue competition will feature the area’s best pitmasters battling for top honors in ribs, pulled pork, turkey, and the People’s Choice Award—plus a special mystery cook challenge. With a total payout of $1,850, the competition will reward category winners with plaques and cash prizes, including $150 for first-place winners and $250 for the People’s Choice Award. The Overall Grand Champion, determined by combined scores, will take home a trophy and $1,000. Attendees can get in on the action by purchasing $5 sample plates of pulled pork and voting for the People’s Choice winner. The event is limited to 15 competitors, with a $50 entry donation required. Meat will be provided, and the cooking window runs from 10 PM to 10 AM. The awards presentation will take place around 1:30 PM on May 3rd. Contest rules and entry forms are available at the Washington Park Office, online at www.washingtonin.us, and on Facebook. For more information, contact the Park Office at 812-254-6010.
