The US House has passed a plan to pause the government’s Syrian refugee program, with a veto-proof majority. The vote was 289 to 137.
8th District Congressman Larry Bucshon (boo-shon) voted for the measure saying it prioritizes the safety of the American people. He says without a thorough verification process in place to vet every refugee that enters the US, the refugee program should be put on hold.
Earlier this week Bucshon released a statement supporting Indiana Governor Mike Pence’s decision to suspend resettlement of such refugees in Indiana.
The US House measure now goes to the US Senate for further consideration.
