Press Conference on energy centers on Crane Solar Farm

Duke’s solar farm at Crane still being planned

Pending regulatory approval, the planned solar installation at Naval Support Activity Crane in Martin County will be the first large utility-scale solar generating facility on Duke Energy Indiana’s system.
That was the comment yesterday from President of Duke Energy, Melody Birmingham-Byrd.  She said the solar facility will be a key milestone advancing Duke toward the goal of operating the company in a sustainable way.
Duke and Indiana Lt. Governor Eric Holcomb held a press conference regarding energy security initiatives in the state.  The planned solar farm at Crane was a major topic.  The Department of the Navy and Duke recently announced they are collaborating to develop the 24 megawatt direct current solar farm at Crane.  It’s projected to be one of Indiana’s larges solar facilities.   Again, the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission still has to approve the project.
Assistant Secretary of the navy Dennis McGinn and Duane Embree the director the Indiana Office of Defense Development were also at the press conference.
The senior leaders remarked on progress and potential for more public private partnerships.  They said new energy technologies, regulations and tax credit extensions will enable agencies to meet critical federal and defense energy and security goals, while also furthering Duke Energy and the state’s commitment to energy resiliency in Indiana.
