Carl Lewis “Lewie” Edwards Jr., 67, of Elnora, passed away June 26 in New York from injuries he sustained in an automobile accident.
He was born in Logansport on Oct. 28, 1948, to Carl Lewis and Dorothy Elizabeth (Chapman) Edwards. He married his loving wife, Debra Kay Coffman on Dec. 22, 2009.
Lewie was a U.S. Army veteran serving from 1969-1975 and he was a proud member of the American Legion Post 245 in Elnora. He was retired from the Crane Naval Base Missile Unit. Lewie enjoyed riding his motorcycle, playing pool at the Long Branch, watching IU basketball and Colts football and especially loved visiting with his boys and grandkids.
Lewie is survived by his wife, Debra Kay Edwards of Elnora; sons Brendon Edwards and Jeremy Edwards, both of Bloomington; stepchildren, Leesa (Hambrick) Price of Lima, New York, William and Nicole (Woodall) Hambrick of Vincennes, Misty (Hambrick) and Nicholas Lafferty of Monroe City, Kimberly (Hambrick) and Steven McGuire, both of Bicknell; six grandsons; seven granddaughters; one brother, William D. Edwards of Sacramento, California; one sister, Betty (Edwards) and Joe Rollins of Elnora; nieces Janel (Wappel) and Tim Miner of Moline, Illinois, Michelle (Rollins) and Mike Keith of Washington; nephews Michael and Megan Rollins of Newberry, Matthew and Tara Rollins of Elnora; many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Preceding Lewie in death are his parents and one sister, Diana Lynn (Wappel) Edwards.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Meng Family Funeral Home, with Rev. Dan Ford officiating. Lewie will be laid to rest in the Elnora Fairview Cemetery. Military graveside rites will be provided by the Odon VFW.
Family and friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home on Saturday.
The family has requested that memorial contributions be made to the Veterans Home. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
