Washington School Board hears enrollment update and approves teacher contracts

Washington Community School Superintendent Dr. Dan Roach says enrollment counts show 2606 students in the system.

He made that report at Thursday night’s school board meeting, the first for the new school year.
Roach said that all six schools are showing an increase in attendance.   However, Roach said that enrollment numbers will not be final until the official September count is reported.
To round out this year’s faculty, Board members approved contracts for two new teachers at WHS.  Jason Smith in English and Lisa Dove in Spanish.  Medical leaves were approved for Erika Tabor and Kim Condit.
The Board also approved new contracts with Washington’s teachers, non-certified staff, and administrators.  Roach said under current state rules, across the board raises are not permitted, but the average increases for teachers will average 2.7% and all base salaries were set at $35,000 per year.   Non-certified staff and administrators saw an average increase of 2%.
In other business, the Board approved an out of town trip for the WHS boys soccer team to the Ft. Wayne Canterbury Tournament September 16 and 17, and for the WHS boys tennis team to a tournament in Crawfordsville, September 2 and 3.   The Board also approved several non-reaching and ECA appointments.
