Several were injured and helicopters were called to the scene of two serious auto crashes on I69 in Daviess County Tuesday afternoon.
Daviess County Sheriff Jerry Harbstreit says the first crash happened at the 69 mile marker on I69.
Accident reports on that crash are still being completed.
The second crash happened about 4:50, or 35 minutes later involving a total of 8 vehicles.
Accident reports state that 26 year old James Schumucker of Bloomfield was approaching 7 vehicles stopped or slowed in the northbound lane due to the first crash. He didn’t see the other vehicles and initially sideswiped a vehicle driven by 61 year old Kim Phillips of Franklin who was in the right lane. Shumucker’s 4-runner then hit vehicles driven by 71-year-old Randal Sparks of Odon, 29-year-old Briley Terrell of Montgomery, and 20-year-old Eric Buedel of Evansville. That collision caused chain reaction resulting in three other vehicles being hit. All of those mentioned accept Phillips were taken to Daviess Community Hospital. All the vehicles had to be towed from the scene. The injuries were listed mainly as complaint of pain.
