Wayne B. Pearl, 76, of Odon, died Sunday at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis.
Born Jan. 2, 1940, in Shelby County, he was the son of Lawrence W. and Ida (Blain) Pearl.
He graduated from Tulane University in New Orleans with a bachelor’s degree in history and from Purdue University with a master’s degree in secondary education administration and an educational specialist degree in education administration. He was in education as a teacher, coach, principal and superintendent from 1962 to 2002. He was instrumental in completion of the new elementary school at North Daviess, where he was superintendent for 12 years. He was an ISHAA licensed official in baseball since 1975 and since 1999 in basketball, softball, volleyball and track. He officiated 57 IHSAA baseball tournaments, including one state final, 15 softball tournaments and eight volleyball tournaments. He retired June 30, 2002.
He was a member of Purdue Alumni Association, John Purdue Club, Tulane Alumni Association, Retired Superintendents Association and Sigma Chi Fraternity.
He is survived by his wife, Glenda (King) Pearl, whom he married Jan. 31, 1959; a son, Kenneth Allen (Harriet) Pearl of Plymouth and their children, Blain Allen and Amanda Ruth; a son, Lawrence Joseph Pearl of Summerville, South Carolina, and his children, Lyndy Jo Pearl (Zachary) Szmara and her son Isaac, and Ryan Lawrence Pearl; a daughter, Cheryl Lynn Pearl (Keith) Day of Hardinsburg, their children Jason Wayne (Rebekah) Day and children Caleb Alan and Andrew Peyton, Brian Keith (Jennifer) Day and children Brandon, Camden Lee and Frye Keith, Shawn Alan (Jordan) Day and daughter Addison Pearl; and deceased daughter Sharon’s children, Kenneth Bayne Branson and daughter Kenzie Grace, Scott Nathaniel Branson and Christopher Daniel Branson.
He is preceded in death by a son, Lawrence Wayne Pearl, and a daughter, Sharon Denise Pearl Williams.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Poindexter-McClure Funeral Home, Odon Chapel. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens Mausoleum, Lafayette, with calling from 11 a.m. until time of service. Bro. Richard Smith will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Fund or Diabetes Association.
