Commissioners continue to consider option land near the airport for development

–        The Daviess County Commissioners took up a  request by the Economic Development Foundation Tuesday to option 35 acres of county owned land near the airport. The Foundation wants to use the farmland to exchange for ground near the I-69 interchange for future development of a hotel, restaurant, outdoor entertainment facility, and employment development site. Airport Board member Ray Crawford voiced concerns about the potential interference with the airport’s ten-year development program. Commissioner Nathan Gabhart suggested the Foundation and Airport Board meet and determine which acreage would not interfere with the airport’s plans.

–    The Commissioners also heard a request from the Washington Township Trustee to apply for a state grant of a half million dollars to build a new fire station for the Washington Township Volunteer Fire Department.  The grant money would come from OCRA, the state Office of Community and Rural Affairs.   Township Trustee Michelle Guy told the Commissioners that structural problems at the Bedford Road station created the need for a new building.
