Virgil Gingerich, 89, of Washington, IN passed away on Wednesday April 12, 2017 at the Oakridge Nursing Home in Washington, IN.
He was born on March 8, 1928 in Daviess County to David and Mary (Knepp) Gingerich.
Virgil was a charter member of the Bethel Mennonite Church and a self- employed business man. He worked for Texas Refinery Corp. for 32 years, won awards, and was inducted into the Texas Refinery Corp. Hall of Fame in 2012.
He married Alta Viola Swartzentruber on October 3, 1952 and she preceded him in death on February 14, 1983.
He then married Norma (Bauer) Roach on October 3, 1992 and she preceded him in death on March 4, 2008.
He is preceded in death by his parents, David and Mary, spouses; Alta Gingerich, Norma Gingerich, one daughter Sherri Gleason, one son Terry Joe Gingerich, 1 great- granddaughter Anastasia Abell , and his siblings; Elizabeth (Aaron) Stoll, Esther (Menno) Graber, Rachel (Noah) Knepp, Viola (Abraham) Knepp, Verda (Robert) Stoll, Mary Margaret (Dave) Kemp, John (Elizabeth) Gingerich, Jacob (Rosa) Gingerich, and David Gingerich.
Virgil is survived by one daughter Sandy (Terry) Collins, step – children Keturah (Tom) Birt and Laquetta Roach, grandchildren; Ryan Swartzentruber, Dustin Gingerich, Rachel Collins, Nicole Abell step – grandchildren; Aaron Birt, Matthew Birt, Raygan Lee Roach, Brandon Greenlee, and Kristine Georges, several great- grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews and one sister- in – law Martha Gingerich.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m Saturday April 15, 2017 at Bethel Mennonite Church with Carmen Detweiler, Noah Knepp Jr., and Melvin Paulus officiating.
Visitation will be held on Friday April 14, 2017 from 2:00 p.m until 8:00 p.m at Bethel Mennonite Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
