The Washington City Council heard the introduction of three proposed ordinances that will affect fees and rates charged by the Electric Department.
The first would provide a lower rate for security and street lights using LED technology.
The second ordinance will establish electrical availability fees for the developers of new subdivisions. Instead of the City assuming all the cost of constructing new power lines the developers would now share the costs. There would also be a meter fee of $500 for new residences and $1,000 for new nonresidential structures.
The third ordinance would create an Economic Development Rider being offered by the Indiana Municipal Power Association. The program would encourage the expansion or development of large power consuming industries in IMPA communities with IMPA giving abatement on increased electrical costs over a period of five years.
A public hearing will be held on all three proposed ordinances before the next Council meeting.
