A deadly crash on State Road 56 west of Ireland Saturday night killed two people who were on a moped.
State Police report that 26-year-old James Posey and 25 year old Ashley Stephens both of Jasper were stopped on the moped in the eastbound lane of 56 just west of Dubois County Road 600-west at about 8:35-pm.
27-year-old Benjamin Braunecker of Jasper was east in a ’95 Dodge Ram truck and unable to see the moped until the last minute and was not able to stop in time. After the collision, the moped was dragged 200 feet before coming to a stop.
On moped rider was thrown and the other was pinned beneath the truck. Posey was pronounced dead at the scene and Stephens later died at Memorial Hospital.
