–The Daviess County Commissioners have decided to sell the vacant Old National Bank Building in downtown Washington. The county purchased the building at a good price when it went up for sale and had discussed using it as a courthouse annex, but that idea did not come to fruition as it was not the right fit for such a project. The commissioners, in their Tuesday meeting, commented that the process did help them decide what they needed for a new courthouse annex which is in the works at a location adjacent to the current courthouse. When the ONB building will go up for sale is not known. When it was purchased by the county, the sellers put some stipulations on it which would not allow it to be used for a bank or insurance business. However, the commissioners have gotten that criteria removed.
– Daviess County residents living along the route of Odon-Cannelburg Road project will see a little more temporary inconvenience beginning Thursday. At Tuesday morning’s meeting, County Highway Superintendent Phil Cornelius told the County Commissioner the project is moving faster than expected. Cornelius reported that concrete will be poured on the new roadbed beginning Thursday. The concrete work will start at Shiloh and will continue south through the project area. Cornelius said the concrete will need at least three days to cure before traffic will be allowed on the pavement. The road is already closed to all but local traffic, but with the concrete work residents living in the work area will need to drive along the roads shoulder to reach their houses. Sunday services at Bethel Church on CR 900 E. will also be impacted.
