Evelyn” Darlene” Cox 82, of Washington , IN. went to her heavenly home in the early morning hours on Wednesday, September 20, 2017.
Darlene was born on March 20, 1935 in Edwardsport, IN. to the late Howard Lewis and Mildred Belma Lewis-Gregory (Chambers). She was wed to the late George L. Cox November 17, 1954 and they shared nearly 55 amazing years together before his passing in April of 2009.
Darlene was a 1954 Washington High School graduate. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, a former primary teacher, and a member of the Relief Society, and also past Job’s daughter. Darlene was a member of the Red Hat Society of River Oaks and enjoyed the activities that they took part in. The most important part of Darlene’s life were her children, grandchildren, and great- grandchildren. They were the apple of her eye, and she cherished their times together. She also enjoyed fishing, mushroom hunting, and the outdoors with her family.
Darlene is survived by her loving children, Lonnie George Cox (Donna), Steven Michael Cox (Christina), Vickie Lynn Bough (Ronald), and Debra Kay Walker (Thomas J. Perry); grandchildren, Aaron D. Cox, Shannon R. Strange, Dustin L. Cox, Erica L. Cox, Malinda K. Cox, and Derrick L. Walker; and 11 great-grandchildren that were very dear to her heart.
Darlene was preceded by her parents; husband; a grandson, Matthew Cox; and 2 brothers, Lesley DeWayne and Lester Eugene Lewis.
Visitation will be on Saturday, September 23, 2017 in Gill Funeral Home, 308 E. Walnut St. Washington, IN 47501 from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. A funeral service will be conducted on Sunday at 1:00 P.M. also at the funeral home with visitation from 11:00 A.M. until time of service. Entombment will be at Sugarland Memory Gardens.
