A toddler was struck and killed by a car on U.S. 231 north of Loogootee Saturday morning.
Reports say that Eric K. Strange was driving north when 17-month-old Alliyia M. Curtis ran into the roadway.
Strange could not stop in time. The girl was taken to the hospital in Washington where she was pronounced dead.
The Washington Times Herald says the child was in the foster care system and staying with a local family.
The road was shut down for three hours after the incident.
