One apartment was destroyed and another heavily damaged in a fire last night on East South Street in Washington.
The Fire Department was called at 11:15pm and arrived to find smoke showing on the 3rd floor. Fire Chief Dave Rhoads says Apartment #5 was totaled while #6 sustained lots of damage. The rest of the Apartment Building, owned by Mr. and Mrs. Kevin Bowen, was said to have moderate damage displacing residents. Rhoads says everyone except those in Apartments 5 and 6 will be able to return in a few days. The Red Cross is assisting those in need.
Rhoads said the fire was caused by an item left on a stove.
His department was on the scene until 2 this morning. There were no injuries.
