Thanksgiving Meal Costing More

We’re paying more for Thanksgiving at home today.
Indiana Farm Bureau’s annual Market Basket Survey for the holiday determined that the average cost for dinner for 10 with 12 traditional foods will run about $50.88, or a little over 5 bucks a person. That averages to about a 9% increase from last Thanksgiving.
37 volunteer shoppers across the state collected prices.  They looked for the best possible prices without taking advantage of sales or coupons.  Items shopped for were the turkey, ingredients for the stuffing and pumpkin pie.  The shopper also bought sweet potatoes, rolls, a veggie tray, whole mile, cranberries and various baking items like eggs, butter and sugar.
While some items on the holiday shopping list declined in cost, the main factor in the overall price increase was the 16-pound turkey, being the most expensive item on the list, which increased 15 percent, or just over $3, this year.
