Velca Thompson, 90, of Vincennes, IN, passed away December 20, 2017, at the BridgePointe Health Campus.
Velca helped her husband, Sam, on the family farm. When he was unable to continue on the American Legion – VFW Firing Squad, she took his place and served for many years. She was a member of the American Legion, VFW, and 40et8 auxiliaries, and the Harmony Society. She had also volunteered at the Accent Shop.
Born March 22, 1927, in Knox County, IN, she was the daughter of Charles Winston and Marilla Elizabeth (Parker) Church. Her parents; her husband, Sam Thompson; her daughter, Donna Thompson; her sisters, Jennie Martindale and her husband, John, Doris Snyder and her husband, Ray, Bernice Brackin and her husband, Elwood, Lila Mae Dreiman and her husband, Ellis, and Evelyn Church; and her brother, Cecial Church and his wife, Marie, preceded her.
Surviving are several nieces and nephews.
Friends may visit with the family from 11:00 – 1:00 on Friday, at Goodwin Funeral Home. The funeral will begin at 1:00 at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery. Graveside honors will be provided by the American Legion – VFW Firing Squad.
