The opioid epidemic that has hit Indiana and most of America could’ve been avoided, had so many people not been prescribed opioids for chronic pain. A new study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association says that over the county medications and moving more can alleviate chronic pain in some cases just as well as prescription drugs. Scott Watson is an addiction counselor with Heartland Intervention… he says that only applies to chronic pain, like shoulder or back pain, or fibromyalgia.
Watson says if you have surgery, it’s still completely appropriate to expect that opiates are going to be prescribed
Watson said research shows the body will create more pain to get more opiates in people who have chronic pain.
Watson said he believes the study will mean significant changes in the way opioids are used
