Child Abuse Prevention pinwheels are up

Gardens of blue-and-white pinwheels are sprouting across Indiana in April to mark Child Abuse Prevention Month.

Prevent Child Abuse Indiana program director Sharon Pierce notes 84-thousand children are born in Indiana each year. Children’s Bureau C-E-O Tina Cloer says when they suffer physical or sexual abuse, it affects their ability to form healthy relationships and their earning power as adults.

The abuse prevention rally at the statehouse comes in the middle of an outside review of Indiana’s Department of Child Services, after charges of mismanagement by the agency’s former director. That report is expected in June.
