The publisher of Pike County’s newspaper for over 65 years has passed away.
Frank Heuring Junior had published the newspaper since 1952 he was 87. He had been active in day to day operations until recent months when he moved to assisted living at Amber Manor.
Frank Huering’s newspaper experience spanned nine decades from the handset type era to the digital age. Heuring returned to the Winslow Dispatch newspaper in ’52 at the age of 23 after returning from the Korean War. He became publisher two months before the first TV station went on the air in Evansville. Heuring was a member of the Hoosier State Press Association and was named to their board in the 1970’s and was Vice President at one point.
His family continues to operate the Press Dispatch in Petersburg as well as a paper in Gibson County. The funeral is Sunday at Harris Funeral Home in Petersburg at 5-pm.
