Main Street in Petersburg has been shut down since Wednesday evening as preparations were getting underway for the 2nd annual Buffalo Trace Festival. Main Street is also Highway 57.
It is closed headed south from the courthouse all the way to German American Bank. The side streets off Main are also closed for about a block each way east and west. You’ll also see road closed signs on 57 coming in from the south headed at Illinois Street although there is access for local traffic.
The Buffalo Trace Festival started last year when Petersburg celebrated their 200th anniversary. The festival was held over for another year with lots of activity beginning tonight. There’s a parade at 6 and then the rides will open. Rides are free Opening ceremonies are at 6:30-pm and live entertainment follows with the Pike Central Jazz Band, the Joe Nobody Band and Rodney Watts.
Tomorrow there’s a Pike County Has Talent Competition at 9-am with the Buffalo Trace Pageants to follow at 11. There’s a pie eating contest and dog show. Carnival rides open at 1 tomorrow again free. Also tomorrow afternoon there’s a balloon toss and a bed race.
Nationally known gospel music artists The Martins will perform tomorrow night at 6.
