A animal was hit on the road in Floyd County last night, but was not injured enough to die on the highway. What makes this incident a little special is that officials are looking into the possibility that this large animal may have been a black bear.
Indiana Conservation Officers are investigating the potential sighting after the accident at 8 last night, again in Floyd County on I64 at mile marker 121.
Witness accounts by the operator of the vehicle, as well as at least one other witness to the accident, led officers to search the area for the animal. The darkness and rugged, brushy terrain of the area limited the search.
Officers will be checking the area today for additional clues to positively identify the animal involved.
Officers with the New Albany Police Department also assisted with the search at the scene.
