A Teenager is Dead After Shoot-Out with Richmond Police

A 14 –year old boy is dead after a shoot-out with police at Dennis Intermediate School in Richmond, Indiana.
Thursday morning the Richmond police received a tip that the teenager was going to the school with a gun and there was a potential for violence. Due to the tip, the school of 650 students in grades 5 through 8, was already on lockdown. When the suspect arrived at the school the 14-year old was confronted by officers from the Indiana State Police, Richmond Police, and Wayne County Sheriff’s Departments. Finding the school locked, the boy shot out a window and entered the building around 8:20 a.m. Thursday morning. Police say that once inside the school, the suspect exchanged gunfire with officers and then fatally shot himself. Authorities have not released the name of the suspect, but did say he was not a student at the school.
State Police Captain Dave Bursten said officials are extremely grateful to the person who made the call warning of the danger. Bursten did not release any information about who made the call.
No officers and no one at the school were injured in the incident. The school was declared secure by 9 a.m. Students from Dennis Intermediate School were bused to Richmond High School where their parents picked t hem up.
