J. Robert “Bob” Mattingly, 81, of Washington, passed away at Golden Living Center in Petersburg.
He was born May 21, 1933, in Loogootee, to Flora (Greenwell) and Thomas Ervin Mattingly.
He attended St. John High School in Loogootee and was a Korean War Army veteran. He retired from DIA in Jasper. He was a member of Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church and a life member of Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed IU basketball and St. Louis Cardinals baseball.
Bob is survived by his wife, Clara Mae (Collignon) Mattingly, whom he married Oct. 6, 1960; one son, Scott (Annette) Mattingly of Washington; one grandchild, Matthew Mattingly of Washington; and two stepgrandchildren, Zach Williams of Bloomington and Jonathon Williams of Vincennes.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers James Francis, George, Larry, Tom and Louis; and sisters Elizabeth Goble, Louise Neideffer and LaVerne Williams.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church, with burial in St. John Cemetery with military rites provided by the Washington American Legion and VFW.
Visitation is from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Ed Lee Mortuary with the Knights of Columbus saying the rosary at 7 p.m.
