The person killed by police in Terre Haute Tuesday night has been identified as a 24 year old Vincennes man.
According to the Indiana State Police, David Frederick of Vincennes was killed when he pointed his gun at police around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday night.
State Police investigators say that a West Terre Haute police officer attempted to stop Frederick’s Chevy Colorado after he ran a red light. The officer activated his lights and siren but Frederick failed to stop. The pursuit then crossed into Terre Haute and a Terre Haute police officer joined the pursuit.
The State Police report says Frederick eventually pulled into a parking lot near Wabash Avenue and 10 ½ Street in Terre Haute. Frederick then got out of his vehicle holding a handgun. Officers gave several commands for Frederick to drop his gun. Instead, the report says that Frederick raised his gun and began firing at the officers. The officers both returned fire striking Frederick several times. Frederick was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators also found that Frederick had recently expressed thoughts of suicide. Once the Indiana State Police have completed their investigation, a report will be submitted to the Vigo County Prosecutor’s Office for a full review.
