The Daviess County Council gave final approval Wednesday for a 10 year standard tax abatement for the construction of a Hampton Inn on Cumberland Drive on the south side of Washington.
After a public hearing, the Council approved a confirmatory resolution and set the abatement schedule. It will be over 10 years with 10% added per year to the recovered taxes.
The new hotel will have 72 rooms adding to the over 300 hotel rooms now available in Daviess County. The local visitor’s bureau and a recent study say that the county needs the new rented rooms not only to accommodate tourism but also for construction workers who’ll be working on recently announced road improvements and industry expansion.
The 4 story hotel’s construction will start later this year. The hotel will provide 50 jobs.
