Frances E. Matthews, 97, of Loogootee, passed away at 5:46 p.m. Monday, June 10, 2019 at Loogootee Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born July 3, 1921 in Daviess County, Indiana to the late William A. and Clara E. (Graves) Cahill.
Frances married Jerome P. Matthews on June 28, 1941.
She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church where she was a eucharistic minister and a funeral dinner committee member. She was a recipient of the first Brute Society Award from St. John Catholic Church in 1992. She was a former member of the Vocations Board for the Diocese of Evansville. She was charter member of the Daughters of Isabella and a member of the Legion of Mary. Frances enjoyed quilting and crocheting for her family, especially for her grandchildren.
Frances was preceded in death by her husband, Jerome P. Matthews; sons, Denny Matthews and Bob Matthews; grandson, Eric Baker; brother, John Cahill; sisters, Marcella Cahill, Josephine Dunn and Miriam Cahill.
She is survived by children, Steve (Jerry) Matthews of Jefferson, Georgia, Jerry (Cathy) Matthews of Indianapolis, Kevin Matthews of Evansville, Mark (Beth) Matthews of Westfield and Mary Lou Matthews of Loogootee; 24 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren; daughters-in-law, Kay Matthews and Roberta Matthews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Very Rev. J. Kenneth Walker at 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 14, 2019 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Loogootee. Burial will follow in St. John Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Thursday, June 13, 2019 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a rosary service to be held at 6:30 p.m. at Blake Funeral Home in Loogootee.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Vincent De Paul.
