Dangerous heat stays for the weekend

The National Weather Service warns that a dome of high pressure from the Midwest to the Atlantic Ocean is bringing triple-digit heat to more than 200 million people across the US. Couple that with stifling humidity, and you have dangerous situation. Like neighboring states, Indiana remains under an excessive heat warning.
Here in Southwest Indiana we won’t reach triple digits but it’ll be a hot with a high of 95 or so with a heat index expected up to 109.
Again take the precautions needed to avoid heat stroke and exhaustion.  Limit time outdoors, take lots of breaks if you are playing or working outside.  Check on the elderly, do not leave anyone or any pets unattended in vehicles where the interior reaches lethal temps in minutes.
The Temple Baptist Church on State Road 57 is again a cooling center today for those who need it.  It’s open from 11 to 7 with snacks and drinks. Also after their 10:30 service tomorrow the church will be open.
The city of Washington is again offering free admission to Water World of Washington today and the Loogootee City Pool is also not charging admission today.
The excessive heat warning remains in effect through 8 tomorrow night.
Relief from the heat starts tomorrow as the actual temperature will be about five degrees cooler and a cold front expected to come through the state Sunday night will make it much less humid and much cooler Monday, with a good chance of rain.
