Hoosier obesity not improving

(NETWORK INDIANA)   Indiana’s efforts to reduce obesity seem to be stalling, mimicking a national trend. Nadine Gracia, COO at Trust for America’s Health says Indiana’s state wide obesity rate hasn’t decreased since last year.
The 2019 State of Obesity report says Indiana has the 15th highest adult obesity rate in the nation, currently ay 34.1 percent.
When it comes to youth obesity, Indiana has the 11th-highest obesity rate for ages 10-to-17. The state also has a higher risk for diseases related to obesity.
Over 12 percent of Hoosier adults have diabetes, and it’s projected that over 800-thousand people in Indiana could be diagnosed by 2030. In 2010, there were over 380-thousand cases of heart disease and nearly 100-thousand were diagnosed with obesity-related cancer.
