At last night’s Washington Community School Board meeting, the board passed the required resolutions establishing the 2020 budget. There’s not much change from last year according to school administrators. There is a small increase, however the school system’s assessed valuation is also up a bit. The budget was for $25.5 million with an advertised tax rate of $1.35 which is down 26 cents from last year’s advertised rate. The budget must now be approved by the state.

The school board received the resignation of Junior High English teacher Lena Johnson. The Board also filled several ECA and non-certified staff positions.
At the end of the meeting, the Board heard a report from computer science teacher, Matt Riney. Riney told the Board he has a list of 40 students, with more possible, expressing interest in robotics. Riney also noted that the robotics program is limited by the lack of space.
