Washington High School to Open College and Career Academy

Washington High School is inviting all local and regional business and community leaders to attend their College & Career Academy Symposium on Friday October 18th from 8:00AM – 11:15AM at WHS. Business and community leaders will learn more about graduation pathways and hear plans for the College & Career Academy. The College & Career Academy will be organized into three schools – School of Applied Science & Technology, School of Health, Human & Social Services, and School of Arts, Business & Social Science. Within these three schools, students will be allowed to explore a variety of engaging career clusters that promote college & career readiness.
With their eye on the future, WHS looks to enhance their curricular opportunities, and career related experiences through locally created pathways and strong partnerships. Students can earn an Associate Degree via the WHS Early College program through Vincennes University. Students can also earn college credit through their College Board approved AP courses. At the same time, many Hatchets experience college credit & career training through Twin Rivers. As Washington looks to expand and grow, it is their intention to work with Twin Rivers to host and potentially develop even more course offerings. The College & Career Academy is also looking to cultivate their college partnerships with Indiana University, Indiana State University, and University of Notre Dame.
WHS understands that strong schools together with diverse employment opportunities lead to thriving communities. They want to partner with local and regional business and community leaders to provide a workforce that is ready for their community’s future growth. Being situated along the I-69 corridor makes Washington a place businesses will want to look; having strong schools that prepare ALL students for their life after high school will make Washington a place where families will want to stay.
