Open houses in Loogootee, Jasper and Washington concerning invasive species were set for this week.
The informational gatherings are geared toward nursery growers and dealers with a warning of “don’t get caught with plants you can’t sell.”
On April 18th next year, 44 newly regulated invasive plant species will be illegal to sell in Indiana. Those include Wintercreeper, Japanese Barberry and Asian Bittersweet.
Information at the open house include all of what the new law entails and talk of other invasive plants which may be deemed illegal or regulated later. The open houses are set up for you to stop by anytime while they are open. There was an open house in Loogootee last night. There was one this morning in Dubois County and tomorrow (Thursday 10/10) there’ll be one open from 2 to 5 at the Community Building at East Side Park in Washington.
Invasive Species Specialist Emily Finch will be there to answer questions.
