(NETWORK INDIANA) Construction on the final leg of I-69 between Martinsville and Indianapolis will start in just a few months.
Hoosiers who live in the line of fire of the construction zone had the chance to ask questions and voice concerns at a public meeting about the project at Perry Meridian High School last night.
“It’s already difficult getting off our street on (State Road) 144 at certain times of the day,” said Bob Purdue to WISH-TV. “So increasing that traffic is a concern getting in and out because there is a lot of near misses there right now.”
“Apparently there’s going to be an exit and a ramp on Southport Road, which is very close to our home addition, and just want to see how that’s going to affect the traffic and the flow and the noise, and we just have questions,” added Kim Lemasters.
The plan is to upgrade the existing State Road 37 to interstate standards from Martinsville to Indianapolis.
INDOT admits there will be several traffic headaches as they progress on those upgrades. But, once the project is done they say the interstate will quicken commute times through that area on the south side by 11 minutes.
Once the project gets moving in early 2020 it’s not expected to be done until late 2024.
