Two housing projects that two developers wanted to build in Washington will not happen anytime soon.
Washington Mayor Joe Wellman told the city council this week that applications to the Indiana Housing Authority for 60 new apartments on Washington’s east side and 45 or so townhouses that were planned for Main Street were turned down by the Authority
The mayor says all cities and communities within the region are struggling with housing needs. He says an economic development study completed recently showed that Daviess County was in need of 1400 more housing units by 2025 to keep up with anticipated growth.
Wellman says he believes the two developers can likely apply again next year and he hopes they will and try to figure out why they were turned down.
